Farm-to-Cup Cupping Experience
Taste Uganda's terroir in a guided professional cupping session.
About this destination
Cupping is how coffee professionals around the world compare lots on a level playing field, and at Africa Coffee Park you join that ritual at the source. Sessions are led by the estate quality team in a dedicated lab designed for sensory evaluation, not casual café tasting. Three to five coffees are prepared side by side using the Specialty Coffee Association cupping protocol, so you learn the same vocabulary exporters and roasters use when they buy Ugandan origin.
The lots on the table typically include estate SL28 and Robusta from the Rwashameire blocks, plus selected partner cooperative coffees from neighbouring highland districts. Guides explain how altitude, variety, processing method and drying practice shape what you smell in the dry fragrance and what you taste in the cup, from bright citrus acidity in washed Arabica to the heavier body common in natural-process Robusta.
You will practice scoring attributes without needing any prior coffee knowledge. Beginners are welcome; the session is structured so that by the end you can describe why one cup feels "cleaner" or "fruitier" than another. Local snacks from the highlands often accompany the flight, grounding the flavours in the same landscape you can explore on an estate tour the same day.
Take-home tasting notes and brew tips help you recreate what you learned at home, whether you use a pour-over, French press or espresso. Many visitors combine cupping with the Adopt a Tree programme or a roastery tour to connect sensory memory to specific blocks and roast profiles.
Sessions run about ninety minutes and accommodate groups of four to sixteen. Morning slots are popular when the lab is quiet and the palate is fresh.
